Weather Considerations

Washington's climate varies dramatically throughout the NFL season, and UK visitors should be prepared for conditions that may be more extreme than typically experienced at home:

September/Early October Games:

  • Can remain surprisingly hot and humid (25-32°C)

  • High UV index even on cloudy days

  • Sudden thunderstorms are common

  • Pack lightweight, breathable clothing, sun protection, and a waterproof layer

  • Hydration is crucial - stadium water fountains are available but queues can be long

Late October/November Games:

  • Temperatures begin to drop significantly (10-15°C)

  • Morning and evening temperatures can be quite chilly

  • Pack layers that can be added or removed as the temperature changes

  • A warm jumper and light jacket are recommended

December/January Games:

  • Can be bitterly cold, especially for evening games (-5 to 5°C)

  • Wind chill at Northwest Stadium can make temperatures feel even colder

  • Snow and freezing rain are possibilities

  • Pack proper winter gear: thermal layers, heavy coat, hat, gloves, scarf

  • Bring waterproof boots with good traction if snow is forecasted

  • Hand and foot warmers are excellent investments

  • Consider rental of stadium seat cushions (concrete seating retains cold)

General Weather Advice:

  • Check the forecast just before your trip as Washington weather can change rapidly

  • Northwest Stadium has limited covered seating, so prepare for direct exposure to elements

  • Games proceed in nearly all weather conditions except severe lightning

  • The concrete bowl design of Northwest Stadium can create wind tunnels that amplify cold

Matchday Preparation

  • Arrive early (3+ hours before kickoff) to experience tailgating

  • Review the stadium's clear bag policy before attending

  • Prepare for security checks at all entrances
