Giants at Commanders: We're Channel 5's First Live Game

Fellow Commanders fans, next Sunday our team hosts the Giants in what will be Channel 5's first ever live NFL regular season broadcast. They've chosen our Week 1 home game to launch their new free-to-air coverage.

Sunday's Coverage

Our game kicks off at 6pm on Channel 5, with coverage starting at 5:30pm.

The channel's new format includes "NFL: Big Game Night" with Dermot O'Leary, Sam Quek, and Osi Umenyiora, featuring gameshow elements during breaks in play. After our game, Channel 5 shows Packers vs Lions at 9pm on 5ACTION (rebranded as 5NFL).

The Viewing Options

Most of us will probably stick with DAZN - we've got our subscriptions and prefer the uninterrupted US coverage.

What's interesting is that this is Jayden Daniels' first home game on free-to-air UK television. For people who've been curious about NFL but haven't committed to a subscription, or friends who've heard us talk about the Commanders but never watched, they can tune in for free.

Growing Our UK Fanbase

This is a genuine opportunity. If Jayden puts on a good show against the Giants, we could see new UK fans discovering the Commanders.

Jayden is the young face of the NFL. His smiling personality is infectious, who we and many pundits believe is destined to become the premier NFL QB.

I still remember the first game I watched, it was the early Channel 4 coverage. The first game the Washington Redskins won, and I was hooked for life. This is how new fans are created.

Whether you're watching on DAZN or Channel 5, it's worth letting NFL-curious friends know the Commanders are on free TV at 6pm Sunday. Our UK fanbase is big, but other more successful teams over the last 30 years are ahead. This exposure could help bring more supporters into the burgundy and gold community..
